• The Nausicaans steal a power generator from the independent scientific research station, Stonekettle Station, on Skarda. This means the station's shield has failed and it will be melted by the sunlight when the day cycle begins. Geordi La Forge leads a team who establish a temporary shield to protect a small part of the station while the generator is recovered.

• The Enterprise follows the Nausicaans back to their homeworld: It was devastated during the Borg Invasion of 2381, with the Federation failing to answer their distress calls or offer help afterwards. They are attempting to use the generator to repair the ecological damage. After a brief battle, the Nausicaans retreat to Skarda and tie the Husnock weapon into its systems, creating a planet-destroying weapon that they aim at Earth.

In Juneau, Alaska, the father of Lieutenant Kara Bain took his arrival very badly, slamming the door in his face and cursing at him several times. In the Gobi Desert, Gold gave his regards to the son of a security officer, who seemed unemotional about the whole thing. Gold gave Eddy's son the Starfleet Citation for Conspicuous Gallantry she'd earned, as he was the next of kin. In Dublin, Ireland, Gold finds the parents of Stephen Drew, as well as Drews friend (fellow da Vinci crewman) Vance Hawkins. The two share some stories with Drew's grandparents, who couldn't have been prouder of their grandsons sacrifice.
